Plastics Modification

ARLANXEO’s Buna® brand grades are well suited for end products made from high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and for the mass-solution polymerization of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resins (m-ABS).

Did you know that HIPS can be found in your household items like electronics (TV and housings) and appliances, such as freezer and refrigerator liners? Healthcare and medical applications are also quite common, like in Petri dishes and waste canisters. Thanks to the recyclability and food contact reliability of high impact polystyrene, it's nowadays very widely used in food packaging.

Helping make the automotive industry more sustainable

Plastic modifications also produce excellent properties in the manufacture of tires, retreads, moulded technical parts, injected or extruded goods, surgical goods, shoe soles and automotive industry parts.

Buna® grades represent a family of butadiene rubbers catalyzed by neodymium has a very high 1.4-cis content combined with a low 1.2-vinyl content and a narrow molecular weight distribution. Our high-tech rubber solutions offer dynamic properties, strong permeability resistance, resilience and grip, reduced rolling resistance and high durability, ensuring the highest performance while decreasing fuel consumption and emissions.

Improving polymers' characteristics and versatility

Did you know that around 40 million tons of PVC are produced every year? Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the world’s most widely used and produced synthetic plastic polymers.

But before some of the plastic components of consumer items make it to the store shelves or the car dealership, their properties are modified to optimize parameters like impact resistance, flexibility, surface finish, and clarity. One of the reasons why PVC is such a versatile and popular thermoplastic, used for a panoply of purposes, is because its properties can be improved to match various needs

ARLANXEO offers several rubbers for PVC modification. PVC products are made softer and more resistant with high-performance elastomers ARLANXEO's Baymod® L. An ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, Baymod® L, makes PVC more elastic and, at the same time, more resistant. Achievable hardness depends on vinyl acetate content. Baymod® N, a nitrile butadiene rubber in powder form, is also used for PVC modification.

Moreover, they offer optimal compatibility with a wide range of other polymers from polyethylene (PE) through to polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
